Ecstacy of St Theresa

Now that I had these buses parking in front of me, I couldn't continue drawing so decided to pull some of Sunday's plans forward a day. When I'd been out to the Borghese Museum, it occurred to me that I hadn't yet seen Bernini's famous Ecstacy of St Theresa. I knew it was built into a church as it has a hidden window to let outside light in to illuminate the work. Bernini was working in Rome so it must have been here somewhere.

I went looking for it the yesterday and found it - but it was closed. So I made a point to go and see it today. It really is an amazing sculpture and was in a building I'd walked past a dozen times over the course of the last week. The building looks stately rather than churchly and there are 3 other churches on the same street in a block (this one makes 4).

Hi Matt, I've always wondered whether the Bernini sculpture of The Extasy of St Teresa is situated above eye level. Every photo I've seen of it is taken from below, looking up.
Also, is it life-size or bigger? I'd love to know.
I didn't know that Italy was such a hang-out for crooks. You obviously know what to watch out for.
It is a long time since I was there, and I didn't get to Rome, only Venice and Florence. My money ran out before Rome.
Have fun, Judy

The bottom of the cloud is about eye level so yeah you are pretty much looking up at it. The thing that surprised me was that the space it is in is quite small. The figures are about life size, little hard to judge when above you and so forth.

Actually Rome worked out 'cheap' and makes a lot of sense for thieves - there are lots of tourists and not all of them are going to be alert.
