Disney Irony

This was actually pointed out to my by the staff at my security job. The Disney studios that I applied for a job at and made it to the last round, is actually closing down (full details here - http://abc.net.au/news/items/200507/1423134.htm?nsw).

Life has a funny way of things working out. If I had of been successful, I would have quit a really good security job, been employed with Disney for a month before finding out that I was without work. I guess that answers the question as to whether or not I would reapply for Disney in 6 months.

Or ... if I was an ego-maniac, when the powers that be at Disney found out that I wasn't hired, they closed the studio down :P

Something Wicked Publication

For those who were reading the blog when it first started back in December 2004 will remember me talking about an 8 page comic story that I had just completed. Well I just received a copy of it and it is a pretty kick arse book ... not that I wouldn't be biased.

Basically it is a whole bunch of Australian Comic artists putting together a whole bunch of short 'horror' stories. The printing quality is rather slick and at 100 pages A4 size, $14.95 Australian is a good price. For those in Sydney, you should be able to get it from Kings Comics on Pitt Street in the city. For those overseas, you can buy it from this website:

Not convinced, here are a couple of preview pages to check out (my art is actually shown in the 3rd photograph):

Here is the cover so you know what to look for:

The Big Scan of 2005

Been a little quite on the blog for the last couple of weeks. Still unpacking and getting things sorted. I also have a little bit of a phobia about the house burning down one day and losing all photos and artworks (about 80% of my photos I have made digital and have back ups at various locations around the city).

However, a lot of my early art, pre-2000, I've never made digital copies (ie scanned into a computer) as my old scanner was too slow and I didn't have the time. Recently picked up a new scanner which is much faster and given now I have a DVD burner, storage is less of a problem. I thought I would only have about 20-30 drawings to scan. As I was unpacking, I kept finding old drawings and sketches. Thus 30 became 100+.

Most of my stuff is at least twice as big as my scanner, so have to scan in pieces and put together in photoshop (ie takes time - largest one was 20 scans that had to be 'seamed' together and certainly was pushing my computer). A couple of weeks later and I'm done.... well not quite, just feed up with doing it and now have digital copies of 85% of my art - that I know of.

One piece I found was this colouring in competition that I actually won for the 1987 Lismore Public School Family Fun Night - I was 9 years old at the time. My prize was a He-man and the Masters of the Universe Popup Board Game (remember how Pop-up books were all the rage at one time ... now if it isn't Playstation, forget it)
