Painting Gallery

At the end of the Vatican museum, included in the price, after the Sistine Chapel, is a picture gallery - which people seem to miss. It has Raphael's Transfiguration (one of his last paintings). Originally he was just doing the top half but was kinda in competition with another artist so doubled the size of it. When you look at it, the image does look to be in 2 halves however.

The museum also had one of the few Leonardo paintings in the world (being almost a neurotic nutcase, he hardly ever finished any of his work so there are only about 11 known paintings of his in the world). This was unfinished and the head had been cut out to be used in another medium before being put back.

Also was a couple of Caravaggio's, including one of my favorites from the Sydney Exhibition - 'Denial of St Peter' (bizzare to see it in its original spot rather than Sydney that I associate it with).
