Day 58 - Follow 'dem Pointy Things!
Originally today I wanted to make a quick detour to the train station in the south to get a piccy of the architecture around there, before heading to the castle in the north west. Whenever I got to a building, I saw another pointy thing further south so kept heading south. Before I knew it, I was well and truly in the south east at an old fort with a church and wandering around it.
Afterwards I followed the river back up north. The river in Prague is well laid out. There is a 10m wide strip to follow it all the way along which is rather pleasant.
This is the entrance to Prague train station which is pretty cool. The only down side is that right infront of it is the highway - would be great if it opened onto a grass area.
Followed my nose to this museum a stones throw from the train station
Saw some pointy things and came to this Church
Another small little church spire that I found
Now up inside the grounds of the old fort. This was in the cementary right next to the main church here. This cementary was elaborate in the tombstones and colonades all around it.
A view of the church from the cementary
Now onto the river and feeding the birds is a big thing (the swans are also quite large)
This building caught my eye immediately. I always like it when modern architecture takes a chance and the design on this building is cool.
Went for a roam at night and some wonderful architecture under lights! This is a brdige linking the Old Town to the Castle.
One thing I like about night time in a city is that someone else makes the decision as to what buildings are important. Anything important will be lit up at night. This is really helpful when you come to a new city with wonderful buildings - it helps tell you which ones are important. I put this theory to the test and it didn't fail! I think most people would find this to be one of THE most important buildings lit up - behind the tree says 'Pub', couldn't get a good angle (but not me).
After a long day and night of touristing (is that even a word), I retired to the balcony off our room. Took over 600 photos today, a record even for me, as at every turn there was just cool stuff or great reference material. Even managed to get a drawing done (while my camera battery was recharging). Funny cause while everyone goes out at night to get drunk, I'm out looking at architecture and trying to get reference material (particularly lighting). Latest career prospect could be an architect, I wonder how much credit I could get for studies already done ... but let's not even go there.
