This was a sign outside the British Parliament obviously protesting the war in Iraq. I just found it really striking and effective ... and it is large (about 2m x 2m - hard to miss).

It is truly amazing, I am spending a quiet day at home after a week that was a tempest to catch my breath and I think to myself... what has young mat-rick been up to. Well, what I get is a thorough, intriguing and perhaps a little philosophical whirl-wind tour of Europe.
The thing that is amazing, given my first sentence is... that we get so caught up in our little lives, busy like ants to complete a task that seems so mammoth that we hardly comprehend it... and life just passes us by. It seems like yesterday, yet an eternity that you were here hanging out in the villa....
I am so glad that your trip is going well. Keep exploring and never let the light of curiosity and discovery ever go out. Little ole' Oz will never feel quite the same again once you have truly tasted the other side. Yet, it is home and is so great as well.

great to hear from you and that you are reading the blog (always good to know that I'm not rambling to myself in cyber space).
Nice certainly seems like a while back now but a really cool time (and actually eating 'properly'!). For all the short comings in Australia, on balance, still a really cool place to be. Unlike a lot of other travellers, they never want to go home - for me familiarity will be good and some sense of 'normality'.
