Day 68 - Walking Around London
It is really strange being back in an English speaking country after over 2 months of a sea of foriegn languages. First up, you can ask tricky and complicated questions and get answers. You mentally don't have to worry about feeling bad about not knowing the local language and signs actually make sense.
Taking me a little to get use to again cause in the tube (metro) I actually stare at people speaking in English, cause I just haven't been able to over hear locals talking naturally about whatever - really bizzare state to be in, and then you realise that you are staring.
Today I went for a walk around down town London looking at all the local sights - Parliament, Big Ben, Westminister Abbey, 10 Downing Street, Traflagar Square and so forth. There was actually sun and blue sky which seems to be unusual for London, so making the most of it photographically (although the yellow hazing has returned to my camera).
The parliament building for mine felt like overkill. It is in a gothic style but just so over the top. The whole point of the origin of the gothic style was so from the inside, worshippers would have their eyes directed upwards, towards the heavenly body and the external of the building supported this. Thus to have a parliament building using the style so elaborately, just doesn't make sense - like trying to kill a fly by opening a window.
