Pergamon Museum
After the free tour finished, it was about 15:30 and one of the main museums I wanted to see in Berlin was the Pergamon. I'd checked and if I didn't see it today, I wouldn't see it at all cause it is closed Mondays and I'm leaving Tuesday. So raced into it for a couple of hours (would have liked to have spent all day here but not to be).
The main thing in the Pergamon Museum is the Pergamon altar piece, hence the name of the place. Basically it is from a temple with steps, colonades, sculptures etc from about 100BC in the Hellenistic style. It was massive being several stories high and the sculptural friezes are about 160m in length.
This musuem was predominately ancient times and not a typical gallery space with paintings and so forth. One thing I didn't get time for in the Lourve in Paris was the anicent time periods (just way too much to see and not enough time). So it was cool to see Babalyon Gates and walls, mosacis and all sorts of other cool stuff.
